Campus impacts
World Cup activity in Lawrence and Greater Kansas City is bringing adjustments to operations during summer 2026.
Lawrence campus
Most academic and administrative buildings on the Lawrence campus will not be open to the public overnight, generally between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., from June 1 to Aug. 1.
- Before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m., impacted buildings will only be accessible with KUIDs and through entrances with key card readers.
- Students who have classes after 5 p.m. will be given access to the class-specific building through their KUID cards.
- Anyone with a KUID card issued before May 2017 or without a card due to loss, theft or damage will need a new card if they need to access buildings outside of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In preparation for the World Cup this summer, KU Transportation Services has increased its parking restrictions.
- A valid parking permit is required for all Lawrence campus lots.
- Overnight parking on campus will also require a valid parking permit.
- These restrictions include green zone lots, which are lots used for student housing that have previously been opened for the summer. From June 1 through July 24, a valid KU parking permit will be required for green zone lots.
- Accommodations will be made for summer camp participants and their families.
- From June 11 to July 13, lot 300 sections A-D and lot 302 will be available for public parking for a fee of $10 per vehicle. Parking will continue to be available in lots 300 and 302 for those with valid KU permits. Permit holders will not need to pay an additional fee to use these lots during this time.
